Sandra Friend Creative

Sandra FriendGreetings! I’m Sandra Friend, Florida author and travel journalist. While I’m best known for my many books and my role as Florida’s hiking expert, developing creative products for clients is how I make a living.

Please note:  due to a long-term project of my own this year, I am taking on no new clients until November 2012. If your needs are immediate and focused on WordPress-based solutions, I may be able to refer you to a trusted web guru who can work with you.

Starting in 1995, soon after graduating from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in Information Science, I built my first website in HTML to share travel and hobby information online with other enthusiasts. My commercial work for clients began in 1997.

With both a background in technical writing and extensive writing and editing experience, I can craft the content you need for a compelling website.

Online, by phone, or in person, I can teach you how to utilize easy to learn tools to make your web presence simple to manage.  I provide my clients personal training – and an array of follow-up materials – on how to keep your website updated and your visitors delighted.

I also teach technical training courses at conferences, helping journalists and tourism agencies understand how best to use online tools to make a difference for their businesses.

Since 1997, I’ve designed over a hundred websites, starting with hand-coded HTML in the early days, moving to visual design tools, and in recent years, working almost exclusively with content management systems.

Travel & Tourism

For more than a decade, I've worked on projects and in positions that constantly cross paths with tourism industry professionals. I've served on committees for VISIT FLORIDA, the state tourism marketing board of my home state, including advocacy for nature-based and rural tourism. As a travel journalist, I have a good rapport with the industry. Many of the projects I do for publishers - including guidebooks and smartphone apps - actively help promote areas and topics that aren't always covered by local marketing dollars.
